Ojiya-chijimi [UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, Nationally Designated Important Intangible Cultural Property]
This unique fabric is made by painstakingly weaving ramie, a high-quality hemp, by finely crushing and joining it together to create a long single thread. This thread is then used as the warp, and patterned weft threads are meticulously aligned one by one to create the design. It is said that 900 hand movements are required to weave just one shaku (approximately 30 cm) of fabric.
The individual characteristics of each color, created by the stripes of Ojiya-chijimi, add an elegant touch, and the unique "shibo" (crepe texture) created by the final hot-water shrinking process results in a refreshingly cool and unparalleled masterpiece. It can be enjoyed by both men and women, as it is unisex.
The set comes with a fan case (hemp) and a luxurious paulownia wood box lined with fabric, making it ideal as a gift for someone special.
