To give depth to the fan's paper, the "shibubiki" process involves applying color three times with a brush, then, once dry, applying persimmon tannin (shibu) extracted from persimmon fruits three more times. This treatment is said to give the paper durability and a unique luster, as well as antibacterial and insect-repellent properties. Due to the handmade nature, the luster and color may vary slightly from piece to piece. Another characteristic is that the luster increases and beautifully changes with age.

At approximately 3 cm longer than a standard men's fan, its larger size generates more airflow, making it ideal for those seeking coolness. With a sturdy construction supported by traditional techniques, it is also recommended for taller individuals.
